Ok... as a documenter of (my life and) the hectic pace of technology's advances, I've failed to keep up with the march of time. For that, I apologize. In May of 2000, Lineo Inc. purchased our company, FirePlug Computers Inc. Since that time, I've been "tasked" with about as many different jobs as anyone I've ever known in such a short time. It seems that having such a broad background is an asset. From marketing, to manager of engineers (Geek Herder - no, they don't get to drive the train ;) to product manager, to sales specialist and everything in between. Stuart Lynne, Bruce Balden, Ken Cillis, Jack VanDenAkker, Ted Powell and I had created a company. FirePlug was aimed at the "plug and play" firewall market - putting our collective skills with the Internet (from Wimsey) and Linux together to create one of the first of what would today be called the "residential gateway". We called it an "Information Furnace" - alluding to the possibility that it could sit in the furnace room, out of sight, and deliver information as easily as the furnace delivered heat. Much has transpired since then... Today, as the product manager of Lineo's Netcom (Network Communications) division, I get to lead the "up and comingest" embedded software company in the world on its way to dominating one of our chosen sections of the computer system industry - network communications. On a lighter side, I've just come back from a few days of "holiday" (but I really only consider time in excess of two weeks as a real holiday). Shirley and I visited her father and a couple of sisters in Kelowna BC. We also got to spend some time with Carola and Ken - friends of Shirley's since high school. |
