The topic for this first drop in will be interesting. Gary Gunderson (gary@wimsey.com) has compiled and will be talking about a MOO. If you don't know anything about these creatures, you might want to come just to be informed. If you do know something, you might want to come and help us define the direction our MOO will go (and volunteer to help build it.)
This MOO software is what is being used for the well known Lambda-Moo which is a research project of Xerox PARC. I know at least one lady who met her husband while interacting with the Lambda-Moo, so you know this is heady stuff.
Our object with this project is to create an environment which our users can participate in and develop towards a meeting and messaging facility that our business and recreational people might use in their Internet journeys. Come and see what it is all about.
In addition, we will be holding a series of Computer Workshops on various topics. The first of these will be on Thursday September 1 at 7:00PM and will be on Installing and using the Apple Macintosh Wimsey Kit Software. Bring your computer (complete with keyboard and monitor and modem) and we will have power and phone lines available for use in setting up and dialing out.
This workshop will be 2 hours long and is $50.00 per person (or couple on one computer). There is limited space, so please register early. For registration, leave a message for
macsupport@wimsey.com or phone our office during office hours and leave your name and a number where you can be reached during the afternoon or evening.
We will also be upgrading our Burnaby PPP/SLIP lines to US Robotic's 28,800 modems over the next 2 months - with full implementation by October 1 at the latest. I know we have been saying that we would only support V34 when we could actually get modems with that moniker on the front, but we have been assured that the upgrade for these will be 'painless'. We needed to purchase some more modems anyway, so felt that this was a good chance to see what all the fuss was about. (anyone want to buy some slightly used USR 14,400's cheap?) We will be offering the older modems to customers that want to upgrade from 2400's etc.
