The Big Boys
IBM seems to be heading for the stars. Their next version of OS/2 is code
named WARP and is due out early this month. The next version is code
named Klingon due for first half of 1995.
The WARP product is a complete rewrite it seems, and should include some
interesting features. The ones that interest this writer are the TCP/IP and
preemptive multi-tasking, both of which bring it closer and closer to being
UNIX.
Watch for the various Power Companies to get into the Information
Highway scene as backbone providers. Their vast rights of way combined with
an upcoming loss of radio bandwidth makes plowing in miles of fibre-optic
cable a very interesting business opportunity.
